The International Journal of Poultry Science (IJPS) encourages responsible access to research data that support published findings. Appropriate data sharing strengthens scientific transparency, facilitates verification and reproducibility, and enables researchers to build upon reliable findings in poultry and animal sciences.

Data Availability Statement

Authors should include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscript indicating whether the data supporting the results of the study are available and explaining how they may be accessed.

Depending on the nature of the research, the statement may indicate that data are deposited in a public repository, provided with the article or supplementary materials, available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to controlled access, or restricted for legitimate ethical, legal, commercial, or contractual reasons.

Deposit of Research Data

Authors are encouraged to deposit appropriate research datasets in established subject-specific, institutional, or general-purpose repositories. Repository records should include sufficient information to identify the dataset and, where available, a DOI, accession number, persistent identifier, or other stable means of locating the data.

Where accepted repositories exist for particular types of scientific data, such as genetic, genomic, nucleotide sequence, or other specialized biological data, authors should use appropriate repositories when consistent with established practices in their field.

Experimental and Supporting Data

Data supporting poultry experiments should be retained and made available when appropriate. Depending on the study, relevant information may include animal performance measurements, feed composition data, laboratory results, statistical datasets, genetic or molecular data, environmental measurements, welfare assessments, production records, images, or other materials necessary to understand and evaluate the reported findings.

Supporting protocols, analytical procedures, questionnaires, or supplementary datasets may also be provided when they contribute to the interpretation or reproducibility of the research.

Data Available Upon Reasonable Request

When deposition in a public repository is not practical or appropriate, authors may make supporting data available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request. Authors are expected to consider legitimate scientific requests in good faith while respecting applicable ethical, legal, institutional, intellectual property, commercial, and contractual restrictions.

Farm, Producer, and Commercial Data

Studies conducted on commercial farms, production facilities, or in collaboration with poultry producers or industry partners may involve confidential, proprietary, or commercially sensitive information. Such information should not be publicly disclosed when the authors are not authorized to release it.

Where access to supporting data is restricted because of commercial confidentiality, contractual obligations, or agreements with farms, producers, companies, or other third parties, the Data Availability Statement should explain the restriction as clearly as possible without revealing protected information.

Animal Research and Ethical Considerations

Data sharing must remain consistent with applicable animal research approvals, institutional requirements, biosafety obligations, and other ethical or legal requirements. Information that could create legitimate confidentiality, biosecurity, or other significant risks may be subject to appropriate access restrictions.

Human-Related Data

Where poultry research includes human participants, such as surveys, interviews, occupational studies, or research involving identifiable information from farmers, workers, consumers, or other individuals, data must be shared in accordance with applicable ethics approval, informed consent, privacy requirements, and legal obligations.

Personally identifiable information must not be publicly disclosed unless appropriate consent and authorization permit such disclosure.

Third-Party and Restricted Data

Authors must respect licenses, permissions, agreements, and other conditions governing data obtained from third parties. Data must not be redistributed when the authors do not have the right to make them publicly available.

When access restrictions apply, authors should identify the original data source where appropriate and explain, when possible, how qualified researchers may obtain lawful access to the data.

Data Verification and Editorial Requests

The journal may request underlying research data or relevant supporting documentation during editorial assessment, peer review, or the investigation of concerns relating to the accuracy or integrity of a manuscript or published article.

Authors are expected to cooperate with reasonable requests for verification. Where relevant supporting data cannot be provided, the journal may request an explanation and may take appropriate editorial action if unresolved concerns affect confidence in the reliability of the reported research.

Reuse and Citation of Data

Researchers using datasets created by others should appropriately acknowledge and cite the original data source and comply with applicable licenses, permissions, access conditions, and terms of use. Secondary analyses should clearly distinguish newly performed analyses from the original research in which the data were generated.

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that data associated with their research are accurate, appropriately documented, and shared only when they have the authority to do so. Authors must ensure that data sharing complies with applicable ethical approvals, institutional requirements, intellectual property rights, contractual obligations, licenses, and relevant laws or regulations.
